Change the Gedit Syntax Highlighter Locally on Ubuntu

If you’re on ubuntu, and you don’t have root access or want to change the syntax highlighter on just one account, follow these instructions:

• Go to /home/{your_username_here}/.local/share/gtksourceview-3.0/language-specs.
• In a new window/tab, go to /usr/share/gtksourceview-3.0/language-specs.
• Copy any language files that you want to edit into the first window that you created, and then edit them.

Note: you will have to restart gedit if you want to see your changes take effect.
